Project: Appalachian Trail Repair

There is always work needed on the much loved Appalachian Trail. Collectively, from Georgia through Maine, trail clubs and organizations work towards keeping the A.T. safe and sustainable for travelers. In this case, the Ralph's Peak Hiking Club reached out to the Rovers to tackle the reconstruction of a steep eroding stretch of "The Trail" near Canopus Lake off the Cold Spring Turnpike in Hopewell Junction, NY. During 4 separate trips in 2012, 2014 and 2015, 38 crew members over 11 days volunteered over 1,600 hours in the quarrying and installation of over 50 stone steps with field support from the Ralph's Peak Hiking Club. Back at the Ralph's Peak Cabin, these local volunteers and thru-hikers gathered for their annual work weekend BBQ of which the Rovers were most happy to take part.
