Rovers Receive Stewardship Award

On October 8th, the Jolly Rovers were awarded the Thom Scheuer Stewardship Award by the Mohonk Preserve at the 18th annual New Paltz Climbing Film Festival. The award was given in recognition of the Rovers improvements to new Campground Connector Trail which takes hikers and climbers to the preserve via the brand new Shawangunk Gateway Campground. The trail not only acts as a connection between the Mohonk Preserve and the popular campground but also to the preserves Visitor Center which orients new visitors to the region. A total of 30 stone steps were installed on a steep and eroding section of the new trail in April of this year.

Assoc. Director of Visitor Services Jon Ross presented the award saying, "The Jolly Rovers exemplify service to the communities they work in not only in building exemplary structures out of stone, but in the spirit they bring to those communities."

Other improvements to the Campground Connector trail are currently being scheduled to occur in 2017.
